Key to Success
As a parent, you have a great influence on your children's progress.
Please read the tips below that will help your child excel in music.
On the Lesson Day
Please make sure to drop off and pick up your child on time. Remember, by being prompt, your child will know that you respect what they’re doing.
After the Lesson
After you return home from a lesson ask your child to talk about the improvements they've made and what the teacher asked them to focus on that week.
Parental support and encouragement strengthens the child's drive to practice.
Practicing
Effective, daily practice is crucial for your child to make progress. Children aren't born with practice skills, nor are they developed overnight. Excellent practice skills take years to develop and must be taught. Parental involvement is necessary for children 10 years and younger, especially in the first few years of study. These are a few ideas you can use to help your child develop practice skills.
Choose the same time of day for practice, a time when your child has the most energy and focus.. Practice has to become as habitual as brushing your teeth or getting out of bed.
Allow your child to practice in short sessions, 10-15 minutes at a time, 2 times a day. This is just a guideline, not an absolute amount. I want your child to focus on goals, rather than time spent at the piano.
Occasionally parents should sit with students during a practice session to listen to new pieces, or assist them in following the lesson assignment. Ask questions about titles and the meanings of Italian words in the score.
