Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child begin Piano lessons?
My concern as a teacher is that my students can sit through the entire lesson. I generally begin some students at the age of five. It really depends on the personality and the developmental stage of the child.

How often do we come to lessons?
Once a week for a private 30 or 45 minute lesson.

How much is tuition?
30-minute lesson: 75Dhs
(this is the preferred option for all beginners)
45-minute lesson: 100Dhs
(this option is available to intermediate and advanced students)

What kind of music do you teach?
I teach the standard classical repertoire but also integrate some songs and pieces depending on the student's personal preferences.

Do you teach adult beginners?
Yes, I have several adult students.

Will I play like a pro in 3 months?
Unfortunately, there are no magical short cuts around the piano.
Private lessons are crucial to successful  piano study. Don't be swayed by programs that promise to teach you to "play like a pro in 3 easy steps!"
The one on one dynamic of private lessons means that each student can excel by learning at his or her own pace. Lessons can be tailored to meet each students needs.

Can we take part in International Music Exams?
Yes, I’m affiliated with the (ABRSM) Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (No.3021755).
Hundreds of thousands of students in more than 90 countries around the world sit for these exams every year.

How many levels are there at ABRSM?
Graded exams are offered from Grade 1 to 8. Those exams are divided into two types, Practical and Theory.

What are Practical Exams?
These exams consist of four different sections:
  • Set Pieces. The student is required to play three pieces
  • Scales
  • Sight Reading. The student is presented with an unseen piece, has up to 30 seconds to prepare, and then must play to the best of his or her ability
  • Aural Awareness. Various exercises are played by the examiner and the student is required to demonstrate skills in listening to music,.
  • The exams are marked out of 150: 100 or more is a pass; 120 or more is a pass with merit; 130 or more is a pass with distinction.
What are Theory Exams?
These are written papers on the topic of musical theory. They are marked out of 100: 66 or more is a pass; 80 or more is a merit; 90 or more is a distinction

What do you advise to the parents of your students to ensure that their child is getting the benefits of piano lessons?
Parents should always give positive reinforcement. Keep them motivated at home to practice. Most importantly, remind your child to be patient and to learn their pieces slowly.

Do I need a piano to take piano lessons?
Yes, but a digital keyboard with 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal may suffice.
